Dental Crowns

Crowns are full coverage restorations that protect the entire tooth above the gum lines. Unlike fillings, crowns go over the entire tooth instead of inside it. Cosmetic dental crowns serve a dual purpose. Not only do they protect and restore your damaged teeth, but they can also improve its appearance.

We typically recommend crowns on teeth that have experienced,

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Large fractures or tooth wear
  • Deep cavities
  • Root canal therapy

Although crowns can be made of many different materials, Dr. Dirig chooses to use porcelain or Zirconia. Dr. Dirig strives to make your crown resembles the appearance of natural enamel and make it also functions very well on a long-term basis. Treatment will take two visits to our dental practice. At the first appointment, we will remove the damaged portion of the tooth surface and shape the tooth appropriately so that it can support a crown. An impression of the tooth is made which we use to create a model of your teeth. This model is then sent to our cosmetic dental lab where your permanent crown will be made. You will return to our office in 3 to 4 weeks to bond your permanent crown into place. Dr. Dirig will make any necessary adjustments and discuss home care with you. Crowns that are properly maintained can last decades or more.
