Preventative Dental Care
Dental checkups and cleanings are the foundation of a healthy smile! At our office we use these visits to screen for dental problems while they are small and simple to treat. This keeps the cost of your care down and also makes procedures less invasive to complete.
During your cleaning appointment, one of our Registered Dental Hygienist will thoroughly clean all surfaces of your teeth, removing any tartar, stain or plaque deposits. We will also assess your gum health, to identify any areas of gum diseases or bone loss.
Dr. Dirig thoroughly examines all patients at their cleaning appointments. Your exam will consist of several steps, including evaluations of the following:
- Digital Imaging
- Periodontal issues
- Wear patterns
- Deep grooves and pits of the teeth
- Health of existing restorations
Preventative Care that is provided in our office
- Routine 6 Months Cleanings (beginning at age 2)
- Full Mouth Debridement
- Root Plane Scaling (Deep Cleaning)
- Periodontal Maintenance
- Patient Education for home care
Daily preventive care, including proper brushing and flossing, will help stop problems before they develop and are much less painful, expensive, and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress. If you have areas that are harder to keep clean or are developing areas of concern, we will help you find ways to manage them between appointments.
In between regular visits, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. These include:
- Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
- Eating a healthy balanced diet
- Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
- Rinsing with a fluoride mouth rinse
Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Our team strives to obtain just that with our preventive care options
